Hoping to change all that is the domestic release of the songwriter’s first solo album last year’s stellar How to Live With a Phantom. As the frontman for the now-defunct and mighty Yura Yura Teikoku Sakamoto spent over two decades crafting some of Japan’s most creatively charged psych-minded rock earning his band true “legend” status at home while eluding our attention in the process. While Shintaro Sakamoto is a bona fide rock ’n’ roll hero in his native Japan he is sadly unknown to most North Americans.
